PDP presidential candidate and Governor of Katsina State, Mr. Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, is demonstrating what kind of president he will be, as he lobbies former military dictators, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar for support during the forthcoming elections.

Daily Champion reports that Yar’Adua has held several secret talks with these leaders in Minna, Niger State,  to beg them to be on his side.

Meanwhile, the presidential candidate who addressed newsmen moments before the meetings vowed that his first assignment in office is to send a bill to the National Assembly for constitutional amendment.

"If elected president, my first move is to correct several constitutional crises associated with the 1999 constitution", he said.

Alhaji Yar’Adua noted that most of the political crises bedeviling the country’s nascent democracy arose from constitutional inconsistency promising that he would strive to amend them to ensure peace, and stability in the polity.

The PDP flagbearer disclosed that most of the challenges he encountered as a governor were based on constitutional provisions such as the creation of local government areas in his state which was adequately needed by his people.

"What we did was to do what the people want, we follow the procedure for creation of local government as contained in 1999 constitution then the presidency felt it was not completed" he submitted.

The aspirant maintained that he would send a bill to the national assembly to correct the inconsistency, adding that, "we did not fail to carry out the yearnings and aspirations of our people in my state".

On the on-going revalidation and registration exercise been carried out by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the presidential aspirant acknowledged the efforts of the commission despite the difficulty it encountered at the early stage.

Speaking on his mission to the state, Gov Yar’Adua said he was in Mina to see his brothers Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar so as to seek their support in the forth coming election.

Earlier, while addressing party members at the presidential lodge, Gov Yar ‘Adua had told the gathering that the state is his home and equally a home for PDP and urged them to support him in the general election.
