The evil genius, former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, has been identified by Vice President Abubakar Atiku's political group as the mastermind of the current campaign to extend the tenure of office of the President and governors.
The Turaki Vanguard, a political association sympathetic to the cause of Vice President Atiku Abubakar, issued a statement
in Abuja, urging Nigerians not be misled by Babangida’s recent public utterance against tenure elongation because he laid the foundation for it.
In the statement, which was signed by Nasir Galla and Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, national Coordinator and Director of Media and Public Affairs respectively the group claimed that, “The problems of tenure elongation we are battling at the moment are the handiwork of Gen. Babangida. If we are finding it difficult to battle one of his disciples in the elongation tenure theory, will Nigerians make the mistake of bringing the master of elongation theory into office?”
It stressed that posterity would judge the former head of state for truncating by annulment, the June 12th election, noting that, “We are not in doubt of the greatness and achievement of President Obasanjo and his love for our country. Based on this, the next political strategy is to save this great institution from being destroyed by some of his greatest enemies who are presently at the helm of affairs of PDP and some of his confused and self acclaimed loyalists in government.”
The group said its next major political strategy is how to save “this great man” (President Obasanjo) from destroying himself by dancing to the evil drums of third term bidders. “Our colleagues in the National Assembly have assured us that the evil the 3rd term agenda portends will become history very soon and we will build and improve on the legacies of this man whom this camp established in power and love so much.”
While affirming that the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had been hijacked by those they described as “funny people” hijacked to destroy, mar the fragile unity and sovereignty of Nigeria.” It disclosed that the 3rd major political strategy would soon crumble. “Our agenda is to wrestle out of the hands of these ingrates and confused minds the remains of PDP after the collapsing their live wire (3rd term agenda).
We intend to reposition the PDP with the other twenty political parties that have wisely chosen Vice President Atiku Abubakar as their consensus candidate for 2007 Presidential Election. Under this strategy, we are approaching President Obasanjo to reciprocate Atiku Abubakar’s contribution in his political life by joining the campaign train of his envisaged successor in office.”
